When I first realized this, I said out loud, “George, you huge jerk.”
All of the main gods and demigods in Elden Ring have names that begin with one of George RR Martin’s initials. How’s that for the big four? Godfrey, Rennala, Radagon, Marika. GRRM.
This news, if you haven’t guessed it, will contain minor spoilers for the names and relationships of the main characters of Elden Ring.
Popular fantasy author George RR Martin was involved in Elden Ring as a world builder. He built the core of The Lands Between and its overall mythos. (See: “What Did George RR Martin Do For The Elden Ring Anyway?” for more details.) Then Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware turned that world into the Elden Ring.
Martin has hidden bits of himself in the story, but the most direct thing is pretty on the nose, and the great movers and shakers, the dramatic primaries of the story, all have names that start with the one of the initials of GRRM. Anyone with the Eight Great Named Runes has a name that begins with G, R, or M.
Godfrey marries Marika and their children are Godwyn, Morgott and Mogh. There is also Godrick, a later descendant. Rennala marries Radagon and their children are Radahn, Rykard, Ranni and Renna. Then Radagon marries Marika, and their children are Malenia and Miquella.
Oh, sorry, I forgot Maliketh. It fits in there too, but I won’t say where because it is spoilerville.
We’ll see if George RR Martin has anything to say about it, other than calling Elden Ring a “historic megahit.” He would, wouldn’t he? His name is everywhere.
